Skywarn training program set for March 29 at LCC

Tired of winter weather? Worried about what turmoil the spring may bring? You can at least get some expert training March 29 at a "Skywarn" session on how to recognize and report developing bad weather conditions such as tornadoes.

The workshop at Lansing Community College's West Campus is co-sponsored by the Lansing Amateur Radio Public Service Corps, the National Weather Service, and the LCC emergency management and safety service department.

There's no charge for the Saturday event, which is open to the public and includes a free lunch courtesy of LCC.

Skywarn Spotter Program training will be conducted from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by lunch. From 1 to 2 p.m., meteorologists from the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids will explain the agency's NEXRAD program, a network of 158 high-resolution Doppler weather radars. Seating is limited and participants are asked to pre-register on-line at http://www.lansingarpsc.com/

The LCC West Campus is located on Cornerstone Drive off Snow Road, just south of the I-496 freeway.
