Who we are:

The Lansing Area/Ingham County Amateur Radio Public Service Corps is a volunteer emergency communications group. The group is organized under the ARRL Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES), and the FEMA-administered Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES). R.A.C.E.S. groups are chartered by local governments; the Lansing Area group is sponsored by, and has formal working relations with, the City of Lansing Emergency Management Division, and the Ingham County Sheriff's Department.

Vision:

To build a coordinated resource of trained communicators, infrastructure and capabilities to assist our community by providing emergency and supplemental communications.

Mission:

The Lansing / Ingham ARPSC will establish a voluntary organization of competent communicators with enhanced capabilities and a resilient infrastructure to support the community. This will be accomplished through, planning, recruitment, training and professionalism.

Lansing ARPSC Presented with Lansing's "Hometown Heros" award

The Lansing Amateur Radio Public Service Corps were presented with the City of Lansing "Hometown Heros" award at the City of Lansing board meeting on June 30, 2008. You can watch a video of the presentation below.

EF-1 Tornado Touches down in Lansing-Area

The Lansing Area Skywarn group was activated on June 8, 2008 for a line of storms that impacted the Lansing area. The activation lasted almost 7 hours from approximately 1 pm until 8pm Eastern Time. The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has determined that an EF-1 Tornado touched down. You can read more here.

Williamston Tornado

Tornado Damage in Williamston
The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids confirmed an EF-2 tornado in Northeastern Ingham County on Friday. The tornado touched down around 2228 EDT on Thursday October 18, 2007 just northeast of Mason and continued through the City of Williamston and out to the county line and into Shiawassee County. Our initial assessments of the damage indicate at least half a dozen homes destroyed.

The Lansing Area/Ingham County ARPSC group was present on Thursday night and all day Friday by direction of the Ingham County Sheriffs Department Emergency Management division. Many more details can be found here.
